Excavation and trenching represent one of the most hazardous operations engaged in by construction workers. This program is intended to educate workers and project managers about the hazards associated with and safeguards needed to protect workers during excavation activities. In this program participants will learn the rules contained in both MIOSHA’s CS Part 9: Excavation Standard, CS Part 15: for excavation equipment and OSHA’s 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P Excavation Standard. Participants will review case studies and participate in hands-on scenario-based activities to further enhance their understanding of this topic. Participants will also learn about:

  • Hazards associated with excavation work
  • Soil classification methods
  • MISS DIG requirements
  • Protective systems used in excavations
